Discover Elafonisi
At 76 km southwest of Chania is a paradise destination, which you must visit at least once in your life. What you will see once you get there is a natural landscape of incomparable beauty, consisting of fine, fine pink sand with iridescent shades on the shore and crystal clear waters. The place looks tropical with the endless horizon framing it, giving various shades from the palette of blue. The point where the peninsula divides is easily passable as its depth does not exceed one meter. The east side of the beach is organized with umbrellas, sunbeds, showers and beach bar while there is ample parking in the area.
Discover Balos
The lagoon of Balos is formed between the cape of Gramvousa and the small rocky peninsula Tigani, 53 km west of Chania. It is justifiably a popular destination for all visitors to Crete, as it has clear blue-green, shallow waters and fine sand around the rocks of wild exotic beauty. The scenery is completed with the island of Imeri Gramvousa which is located nearby and gives a different geomorphological note. It can be accessed either from the land or from the sea by boat that departs daily from Kissamos. Discover Falasarna
Falasarna beach is about 3 km long and actually consists of five consecutive beaches separated by rocks or dunes, with the two largest gathering the most people. You will find it 59 kilometers west of Chania, in the Gramvousa Peninsula. It has been awarded as the best beach in Crete and is very popular throughout Europe. The most famous of the 5 beaches is Pachia Ammos, about one kilometer and so wide that no matter how many people visit it, it never gives the feeling of overcrowding and does not make the visitor suffocate. Its sand is fine and light in color and the waters have a turquoise, transparent color. It is fully organized with cafe-bars, restaurants, water sports services, umbrellas, beach volleyball court and yet there is plenty of space for those who want to have their own umbrella. It often has waves due to the strong northwest winds that blow in the area, raising water masses that delight windsurfing enthusiasts, so find out the weather before you visit. It is also famous for its idyllic sunset, which is rightly considered the best in all of Crete, as the view of the horizon is unlimited and the sun is literally setting in the sea.
Discover Samaria Gorge
The amazing gorge of Samaria is a rocky work of nature that touches the calm sea. A National Park, which in 2010 was included in the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves.
It is the largest in Greece and its crossing is the main purpose of the trip of many tourists who arrive in Crete. Its descent, with a length of 18 km, lasts from 4 to 7 hours depending on the experience and endurance of the hikers. There live the famous Kri-Kri, the wild goats of Crete, but also many other animal species that are not found anywhere else, as well as special species of flora which are also unique in the world. The largest width of the gorge of Samaria reaches 150 meters, while its narrowest point is “Portes” which means “Doors” in Greek – just before the exit – with a width of 3 meters. The rocks there
reach a height of 600 meters and the landscape is simply breathtaking!
