At 76 km southwest of Chania is a paradise destination, which you must visit at least once in your life. What you will see once you get there is a natural landscape of incomparable beauty, consisting of fine, fine pink sand with iridescent shades on the shore and crystal clear waters. The place looks tropical with the endless horizon framing it, giving various shades from the palette of blue. The point where the peninsula divides is easily passable as its depth does not exceed one meter. The lagoon of Balos is formed between the cape of Gramvousa and the small rocky peninsula Tigani, 53 km west of Chania. The amazing gorge of Samaria is a rocky work of nature that touches the calm sea. A National Park, which in 2010 was included in the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves.

Its descent, with a length of 18 km, lasts from 4 to 7 hours depending on the experience and endurance of the hikers. There live the famous Kri-Kri, the wild goats of Crete, but also many other animal species that are not found anywhere else, as well as special species of flora which are also unique in the world. The largest width of the gorge of Samaria reaches 150 meters, while its narrowest point is  “Portes” which means “Doors” in Greek – just before the exit – with a width of 3 meters. The rocks there
